Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD’s)

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at Lewes Physiotherapy

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy encompasses the treatment of a wide range of conditions affecting joints, muscles, nerves and vascular systems of the body. These include conditions such as arthritis, neck and back pain, whiplash associated disorders, sports injuries, reduction of balance and mobility, post-operative rehabilitation and repetitive strain injuries.

Following a thorough assessment, your Physiotherapist may incorporate a wide range of treatment techniques, such as: stretching; strengthening; joint or soft tissue manipulation/mobilization; electrotherapy and acupuncture, to optimise your recovery and long term management/prevention strategies.

Work related musculoskeletal disorders (MSD’s) can include neck and back pain and repetitive strain injuries. Research has shown Physiotherapy treatment can prevent up to 80% of people not requiring time off work for these conditions. As with any condition, your Physiotherapist will carry out a thorough assessment and develop a personalized treatment plan, based on your condition, current abilities and goals.

As with adults, children can experience various musculoskeletal disorders. These can be attributed to many causes such as sports injuries, posture, hyper-mobility and growing pains. In many cases, Physiotherapy can help identify these causes and find long term strategies to help rectify them, whilst utilizing appropriate physiotherapy techniques to treat the symptoms.

At Lewes Physiotherapy, we have many years of experience treating musculoskeletal disorders such as these from elite sports persons, to the inactive. If you have any questions, please contact us to discuss whether Physiotherapy would be the appropriate course of treatment.

Matt Waters and also additional Physiotherapist attached to Lewes Physio are registered to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and are also fully insured and also DBS checked (Disclosure and Barring Service), that service formally being CRB (Criminal Records Bureau).
